One place where American history comes alive is at Independence Hall in Philadelphia. Independence Hall is the location of the debate and signing of the Declaration of Independence and the Constitution of the United States. Just knowing you are standing in the same spot as Thomas Jefferson, Benjamin Franklin, John Adams and others many others is simply amazing. The building is actually the old Pennsylvania State House and there is a lot of history surrounding the location.
On arrival at the visitors center there is a lot of information about Independence Hall. You must get tickets to enter Independence Hall, but the tickets are free. You can generally pick these up at the visitor center and walk across during slow times. If you are traveling during peak travel times, you should reserve your tickets in advance online (There is a small convenience fee for this option). The National Park Service does a great tour of the grounds showing you the old Courtroom of the Pennsylvania Supreme Court and the Assembly room where the debates and signings took place. Near the welcome center there is a small gift shop and snack shop as well.
On any trip to the area, we highly recommend stopping by for a tour of Independence Hall. There are many other locations of interest nearby such as the Liberty Bell display and Benjamin Franklin’s grave. Of course any trip to Philadelphia isn’t complete without trying a great Philly Cheesesteak!
