New York City – One World Trade Center Observatory
One place that is always exciting to visit is New York City. Many of our clients talk about how NYC can be expensive and talk about being unsure of things to do while in the city. On a recent visit, we stopped by the One World Trade Center to visit the observation deck.
On the approach to the area, the building is quite impressive and certainly towers in an impressive manner. The whole area has a feeling about it that causes you to remember the past and causes an increase in your feelings of patriotism from those memories.
At the base of the building, It’s even more towering and impressive. You can see that we had some clouds roll through as we started to enter the tower to head up to the observation deck.
After entering the building you wind your way through security and into the base of the tower. A lot of history about 9/11 and the construction of the new tower are given through pictures and videos along the way. Once you make your way to the elevators, you are told that in less than 60 seconds you will travel to the observation deck over 100 floors above. The elevators are equipped with a very interesting LED display as you begin your climb. You can certainly tell your climbing fast as many mentioned they felt their ears pop as they began their climb. Once you exit the elevator you enter a theater for a movie about the tower and NYC which has an exciting ending that you can only describe if you see it. It was worth the trip itself!
Once inside the observation area, you can walk in a complete 360 degree circle above the city. The views are amazing and breathtaking, even on a cloudy day as you can see from the pictures.
There’s a restaurant, shopping area, and restrooms available at the observation deck. They offer to purchase for an additional cost a digital view finder that will tell you what buildings and areas you are looking at and give you information about them. You can even catch a pretty good view of Lady Liberty while you are there…
Prices to visit the observation deck start at $34 per person (youth and seniors get a discount) and there are options for expedited entry as well. While it can be costly for a family to visit, if you take your time and truly explore the entire offering it definitely gives you a few hours away from the hustle and bustle of the city.
